USAAF pilot defected, flew his P-38 to Milan & joined the SS

 

 

Martin James Monti (October 24, 1921 – September 11, 2000) was a United States Army Air Force pilot who defected to the Axis powers in October 1944 and worked as a propaganda broadcaster and writer. After the end of World War II, he was tried and sentenced to a long prison term for desertion, then pardoned, then tried for treason and sentenced to another long term.
Born in St. Louis, Monti was one of seven children of prosperous parents. His father was an investment broker who had immigrated to the United States from the Italian Graubünden, the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland. His mother was from Germany. Four of his brothers served in the Navy during World War II.
During the 1930s, Monti was an anti-Communist and an enthusiastic admirer of Charles Coughlin, a Roman Catholic priest who made weekly radio broadcasts. Coughlin was known for his anti-Communism, his antisemitism and his admiration of the Fascist governments of Germany and Italy. His broadcasts attracted audiences of millions before being stopped in 1939 on the outbreak of World War II.

Being launched off the flight deck of an aircraft carrier is a normal routine, but adrenaline junkie pilots love the radical feel of about 4 G’s. On July 9, 1991, an A-6 Intruder modified to be a refueling aircraft was shot of the Abraham Lincoln in the Persian Gulf. Lieutenant Mark Baden was the pilot and had his friend and navigator (BN), Lieutenant Keith Gallagher beside him. It was Gallagher’s birthday, and he advised Baden when they returned it would be his 100th trap recovery on an aircraft carrier.
A midair collision had occurred a few days earlier, and Baden was slightly nervous. On top of all the other odd circumstances, he was actually assigned the plane with his name emblazoned on the side. (Unlike in the movies, the pilots don’t always fly the plane with their name.) He made all the normal checks and touched all the buttons and switches. Satisfied he was ready for anything, the aircraft was blasted off the end of the carrier to accomplish the mission: to refuel other aircraft in the sky.
The refueling version of the A-6 was a KA-6D and was modified by removing radar and bomb equipment to install an internal refueling gear. Some attack capability including a visual bombing ability was retained, but the overall design was to provide fuel in the air. This plane served the US Navy extensively from 1963 to 1997.

1984: The Autobahn Airfield – A10s, Hercules’ and Fighters Land On A Highway

 

 

In 1984, the NATO held an exercise on the German Highway, known as the Autobahn, to test one of the contingency plans in case the regular airbases were taken out by a Soviet attack.
A purposely build 2600 meter stretch of highway of the A-29 was tested as A-10 Thunderbolts, C-130 Hercules transports and F-15 and F-16 fighters landed on the makeshift runway. After landing, the planes were refueled from dispatched trucks and then took off from the highway.

Otto Carius, Famous German Panzer ace of WWII, dies at 92

One of the most respected and successful German tank aces, Otto Carius, who destroyed more than 150 tanks, died on 24^th January 2015, at the age of 92. In recognition of his gallantry and unmatched battlefield leadership, he was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, known in Germany as “Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes mit Eichenlaub”.
Born in 1922, he was refused admission to the army on two occasions, the reason cited as ‘Not fit for service: at present underweight’. However, his chance came when in 1940 Carius was accepted into the 104^th Infantry Replacement Battalion.

Ο αριθμός των εκδιδόμενων γυναικών και ανδρών αυξάνονται τα τελευταία χρόνια, οι τιμές των «μισθώσεων» πέφτουν όπως και η συχνότητα «προσφυγής» των Ελλήνων «πελατών» στην πορνεία. Ο τζίρος από την πορνεία, από τα τέλη του 2012 έως σήμερα, κινείται στα 600-620 εκατ. ευρώ.
Ο αριθμός των εκπορνευόμενων ανέρχεται περίπου στους 18.500 σε ολόκληρη την Ελλάδα. 13.000-14.000 αλλοδαπές εκδιδόμενες είναι θύματα trafficking.

It all began on September 30, 1938 when the Munich Agreement was signed. With this agreement, England and France gave the Nazi dictator, Adolf Hitler exactly what he wanted— the Sudetenland, the north western area of Czechoslovakia. There was not a single Czech representative present at the discussion. This was an act of the English Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlin and an effort to appease the violent Germans. Of the agreement, Winston Churchill stated:  “We chose between shame and war; now we have shame and war.” This planted the seeds for one of the most famous assassinations during the European Theater of Operations of WWII.

Αυστηρό μήνυμα προς την Άγκυρα με προειδοποιήσεις για το «τέλος» που είχε η Οθωμανική Αυτοκρατορία, έστειλε η Μόσχα καθώς οι σχέσεις των δυο χωρών παραμένουν παγωμένες και η ρωσική πλευρά δεν κρύβει την ανησυχία της από τις νέες προσπάθειες της Τουρκίας για στρατιωτική εμπλοκή της στην Βόρειο Συρία. Η εκπρόσωπος του ρωσικού υπουργείου Εξωτερικών κατηγόρησε την τουρκική ηγεσία για προσπάθεια επαναφοράς της Οθωμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας και για συμπεριφορά που δεν επιτρέπει την αποκατάσταση των σχέσεων με την Μόσχα. Η Μαρία Ζαχάροβα σε συνέντευξη της στην «Ισβέστια» εξέφρασε την εκτίμηση ότι σβήνει κάθε ελπίδα αλλαγής της τωρινής καταστροφικής πολιτικής που ακολουθεί η τουρκική κυβέρνηση στην διεθνή αρένα προσθέτοντας ότι η Άγκυρα αυτό που κάνει είναι να πυροδοτεί την κατάσταση. Η εκπρόσωπος του ρωσικού ΥΠΕΞ δήλωσε ότι η εντύπωση που αποκομίζει κάποιος είναι ότι καταβάλλεται προσπάθεια αναβίωσης της «παλαιάς ισχύος της Οθωμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας».

  ​Η Κίνα μελετά την επανάκτηση και επαναχρησιμοποίηση επανδρωμένων διαστημοπλοίων για τις μελλοντικές διαστημικές αποστολές, κυρίως για μείωση του κόστους των διαστημικών αποστολών. Η Κίνα ήδη αναπτύσσει διαστημικό πρόγραμμα επανδρωμένων πτήσεων και μόνιμης παρουσίας ανθρώπων στο Διάστημα και τα οχήματα μεταφοράς προσωπικού και προμηθειών είναι αναπόσπαστο μέρος. Οι ΗΠΑ σταμάτησαν το 2011 τις πτήσεις του δικού τους επαναχρησιμοποιούμενου διαστημικού λεωφορείου λόγω προβλημάτων ασφαλείας και υψηλού κόστους.
​Ο κινεζικός Διαστημικός Σταθμός αναμένεται να ολοκληρωθεί το 2022.

 Νέα γενετική ανάλυση εντόπισε μια φυλή από την οποία κατάγονται οι Ευρωπαίοι

Η νέα μελέτη υποδεικνύει μια αρχαία φυλή που αρχικά ζούσε στην κεντρική Ευρώπη ως εκείνη από την οποία κατάγονται όλοι οι Ευρωπαίοι.

Πριν από λίγες εβδομάδες παρουσιάστηκε μια μελέτη σύμφωνα με την οποία οι μισοί σύγχρονοι Δυτικοευρωπαίοι κατάγονται από έναν «βασιλιά» της Εποχής του Χαλκού, ο οποίος ζούσε πριν από περίπου 4.000 χρόνια και υπήρξε ο γενάρχης μιας δυναστείας ευγενών, οι οποίοι σταδιακά εξαπλώθηκαν σε όλη σχεδόν την Ευρώπη, δίνοντας τέλος στις λιγότερο ιεραρχικές κοινωνίες που είχαν προηγηθεί. Μια νέα γενετική ανάλυση υποδεικνύει μια φυλή που ζούσε πριν από 35 χιλιάδες έτη στις περιοχές του σημερινού Βελγίου από την οποία σύμφωνα με τους ερευνητές κατάγονται όλοι οι Ευρωπαίοι.Τα ευρήματα Ερευνητές του Πανεπιστημίου του Χάρβαρντ ανέλυσαν το γονιδίωμα δεκάδων ανθρώπων που ζούσαν πριν από 45 χιλιάδες ως και πριν επτά χιλιάδες έτη στην Ευρώπη. Εχει διαπιστωθεί ότι ο σύγχρονος άνθρωπος έφτασε στην ευρωπαϊκή ήπειρο πριν από περίπου 45 χιλιάδες έτη. Όμως δεν έχει φωτιστεί το πώς οι πληθυσμοί των σύγχρονων ανθρώπων κινήθηκαν στην ήπειρο και σε ποιες περιοχές εγκαταστάθηκαν πριν την κομβική για την μετέπειτα παρουσία και εξέλιξη των ανθρώπινων κοινωνιών εμφάνιση της γεωργίας.

Στην ανέγερση αγάλματος για τον αρχιεπίσκοπο Χριστόδουλο δηλώνει με κάθε ευκαιρία ότι θα προχωρήσει ο υπόδικος βο(υ)λευτής και δεύτερος τη τάξει στην ιεραρχία της δολοφονικής συμμορίας της χρυσής αυγής, Ηλίας Κασιδιάρης, σε περίπτωση που εκλεγεί δήμαρχος στην Αθήνα.
Τελευταία φορά που το δήλωσε αυτό, ήταν σε συνέντευξή του στο πόρταλ του «Αγιορείτικου Βήματος».
Καταρχήν να τονίσουμε πως καθόλου δεν μας προξενεί εντύπωση ότι ο νοσταλγός της πιο φριχτής ιδεοληψίας του εικοστού αιώνα που οδήγησε στη θανάτωση δεκάδων εκατομμυρίων ανθρώπων, το στέλεχος της συμμορίας με τον αγκυλωτό σταυρό στον ώμο που εκπαιδεύει τάγματα εφόδου, φιγουράρει ως όψιμος θεοσεβούμενος της χριστιανορθοδοξίας.

Cold war is littered with near ‘nuclear apocalypse’ misses, technological and aviation advancement and a fair number of peculiar incidents. One such bizarre event occurred when it was least expected; right near the end of the cold war. July. 4 1989, Independence day for the Americans, was not especially exciting day for the 32^nd TFS (Tactical Fighter Squadron) also known as ‘Wolfhounds’ then based in Soesterberg, Netherlands.
When two very competitive pilots J.D Martin and Bill Murphy were scrambled, they were not expecting that their independence day flights would be to intercept and possibly engage a very strange Soviet MiG.

After Pearl Harbor, the United States came face to face with the reality of the war and an enemy that almost everyone in the Government or the military underestimated and paid a heavy price. On the other side, Russia, though not fully prepared to take on the military might and readiness of Adolf Hitler, once attacked fought back very hard and eventually pushed back the Nazis from the gates of Moscow and defeated them in and around Berlin.

In February 1944 a lend-leased M4A2 Sherman tank was ambushed by German anti-tank  gun when it was on the ice of the swampy Gniloy Tikich river in Cherkasy Oblast of Ukraine. The tank was hit twice — in the tracks and in the turret. The turret was knocked off the hull, three crew members were killed instantly. The driver survived but the next day he was found and shot by SS troops.
This tank was found in 1998 and in November 2004 after a lot of effort it was dragged out from the swamp of the old riverbed on the bank by the team of enthusiasts supported by Ukrainian Army. In the gun barrel the found a  75 mm shell and they decided to unscrew the fuse and then hit the shell out with a sledge hammer!

German scientist Heinz Krug vanished on September 11, 1962. Krug was at his office, and then he was gone without ever returning home.
The only other detail known to the Munich police was that Krug often went to Cairo. Like dozens of other Nazi rocket scientists, he had been hired by Egypt to help them develop advanced weapons.
The Israeli newspaper HaBoker (now defunct) claimed that the Egyptians had kidnapped Heinz to keep him from doing business with Israel. The “leak” was an attempt by the Israeli government to keep investigators from looking too closely at the case. Although the 49-year-old scientist wasn’t going to be found either way.

Kheperkare Nakhtnebef, also known by his hellenized name Nectanebo (380-363 BC), was the founder of the last native Ancient Egyptian dynasty (30th Dynasty) before the realm was overrun by Alexander the Great (and then controlled by the Ptolemies). And now a joint Egyptian-German Archaeological Mission has been able to excavate parts of Nectanebo’s sanctuary, inside the confines of Heliopolis, presently in the suburb of Ayn Shams, on the north-eastern side of Cairo.

Acropolis (or Ἀκρόπολις in Ancient Greek) is one of the still extant ancient citadels that has survived from the ‘archaic’ times. Symbolizing the power of Athens with its literal height, the history of this tall rocky outcrop (of 490 ft) incredibly goes back to around 3500 BC, thus making it older than even the Great Pyramid. And while it started out as a strategic fortification of the surrounding settlement, the site of Acropolis was given both a political and religious makeover by the classical period (circa 5th century BC), with its impressive array of temples and monuments – including structures like the Parthenon, the Propylaia, the Erechtheion; all exemplifying features of ancient Greek architecture. Suffice it to say, with an extensive timeline of over 5,000 years, the ancient citadel of Acropolis makes for a pretty fascinating historical tour. And that is exactly what these animations achieve – with their brilliant depiction of the key events that affected the site and its range of Grecian monuments over the centuries and millenniums.

Ο Απρίλης είναι ο μήνας στη διάρκεια του οποίου έχουμε την πιο μεγάλη γιορτή των ορθοδόξων Χριστιανών, που είναι τα Πάθη και η Ανάσταση του Κυρίου. Ιδιαίτερα για τους Ελληνες η γιορτή αυτή αποκτά πρόσθετη σημασία, αφού αρκετές φορές η Ανάσταση του Θεανθρώπου συσχετίστηκε με την ανάσταση της ίδιας της φυλής, ενώ συγχρόνως τους θύμιζε και πανάρχαια θρησκευτικά και λατρευτικά δρώμενα που η αρχή τους χάνεται στο βάθος των αιώνων, σε χρόνους πολύ πριν από τον ερχομό του Σωτήρα.

Ο λόγος του Ιωάννη, όπως μάλιστα εκφράζεται από τις πρώτες σειρές του Ευαγγελίου του, είναι απολύτως διαφωτιστικός για την κατανόηση του Θεού-Λόγου. Μεταφέρει λοιπόν ο Χριστός στους ανθρώπους με τη ζωή Του και τον λόγο Του ένα τρόπο υπάρξεως διαμετρικά αντίθετο από εκείνον που η ατελής φύση τους έχει καθιερώσει.  

Πρόκειται για τον τρόπο της αγάπης που υποδεικνύει τη συναλληλία μεταξύ των ανθρώπων, την οικοδόμηση μεταξύ τους σχέσεων εμπιστοσύνης και ανοχής, με τελική τους επιδίωξη να ζουν σε κοινωνίες διατεταγμένες εσωτερικά με όρους συνοχής, ελευθερίας και ευρηματικότητας, απαραίτητους για επιτυχείς απαντήσεις στις προκλήσεις της ζωής. Επίσης και οι σχέσεις που διαμορφώνουν οι κοινωνίες αναμεταξύ τους να διέπονται από τις ίδιες αρχές, αποκλειομένης της βίας με σκοπό ιδιοτελείς υλικές επιδιώξεις, που συνήθως περιβάλλονται τη λεοντή ψευδών και προβληματικών ιδεολογιών.
