Archeologists in Turkey's southern Antalya province discovered what
is allegedly the only one-piece statue of Second Century Roman Emperor
Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, also referred to as 'Caracalla.'
According to Doğan News Agency, the statue was found during the excavation and restoration project of the Ancient City of Perga, located in Aksu district, Antalya, which has been carried out by Antalya Museum since 2012.
It was claimed that the statue of Caracalla found during the excavation is the only statue of the emperor remaining as a whole. Beside the massive 2.2-meter statue of the Roman emperor stands a small statue of a soldier, indicating Caracalla's glory and status at the time.
