Pure Arabica
The western world is nearly destroyed by the onset of the Bubonic Plague. When the dust settles, the Muslims are poised to invade Europe, and do so. By the time of the Renaissance OTL, Europe is deeply Muslim, and the Pope has ceased having any power.
By the time of Columbus, the Muslims have launched a crusade against the Orthodox of the East, driving the Christians from the Caliphate of Thenas (Greece) who settled in Malorussia and the Orthodox Empire (Russia).
The Arab world by modern times is divided between the Shi'a, Sunni and Shim'ali sects, with the growing division of Atkellim Allah. The Orthodox Russian Empire is a last stalwart against the muslims, and Rome is dominated by the great Mosque of Kephas, a great prophet following Jesua.
There was much strife between the sects of Islam in North America as they fought jihad against the infidel American Indians.
In the Caliphate of Al-Halam Aljideed there arose in the 1820's a new imam, splitting the Shi'a, and attracting many Sunni and Shim'ali to a new breed of Islam, called Atkellim Allah, or as it has now been shortened to Atk'Allah.

Thenas gave rise to the ancient and hedonistic Greek culture, but from the ashes of that culture have arisen a highly scientific and intelligent culture. Thenas is one of the most literate nations in the world, and attributes their public learning levels to their focus on their great history.
During the wars of the last century, Thenas fought to maintain and restore its former borders, citing records of their ancient borders. This has caused some great stress in the region, but the current Caliph has remained committed to the peace of the region.

The Orthodox Hansa Bundesland has remained free from the yoke of Islam with the support of the Scandinavian Union for the last 500 years, gaining and losing territory along the coast of the North and Baltic Seas. As of 1998 the territory held by the OHB was at its furthest extent, stretching from Den Helder in the Netherlands to Danzig on the Baltic, and as far south as Dusseldorf, Kassel, Leipzig and Dresden.
The Great Mosque of Dresden, formerly the Frauenkirche has been restored to its Christian glory under the control of North Germany. The Peace accords signed between the Caliphate of Tutobergha and the OHB have set the line of control just south of the cities listed, but have given the Tutoberghans control of Magdeburg, Braunschweig and Hannover, enclaves of Tutoberghan influence in the very heart of the OHB.

The United Kingdom of Alba and Hibernia dates to Roman times, when the Picts descended from Alba pushing the Romans back into the sea in 500 AD. Saved from major Angle, Saxon and Jute invasion by the pressure of the Muslim invasion of Europe, Gaelic is the mother language of these northern isles, nevertheless borrowing heavily from Arabic and other former invaders.
Despite heavy influence from its neighbors across the sea, a strong underground current of Paganism survives, and has increased since the 1980's, especially as Islam's focus on Atkellim Allah has taken a stronger role in the international community.
Since the fall of the Frankish Kingdoms the United Kingdom has been at near constant war with the Caliphate of Firanja. It has only been in recent years that the Gaelic speaking minorities of Brittany have been granted any form of autonomy.
The Celts (as they call themselves) of Alba and Hibernia invaded the Caliphate of Londris and established the Principality of Anglia, a move supported by their allies and the Peace Treaty of Limotas following the Continental War.

The Scandinavian Union was established in 1397 under Queen Margrethe I, who ruled the three nations of Norway, Sweden and Denmark, and was succeeded her nephew. The Scandinavian Union is an elective monarchy, with the next ruling monarch elected from the monarchs alive at the time of succession. Most monarchs have been elected from Denmark and Sweden, but with Norway's establishment as an independent kingdom, monarchs have begun to be elected from there, as well.

Shim'ali (Pure Arabica)
Shim'ali, or the Western movement of Islam in the Pure Arabica universe, arose as Latin Rite Catholicism was subjugated to Islam. After a few hundred years, this form of Islam had small minorities across the Middle East and majorities in Europe, with the exception of Southern Iberia
Atk'Allah (Pure Arabica)
In the Pure Arabica universe Atk'Allah, a revelation given to the imam Yusef bin Yusef, wherein Allah appeared himself in his glories, and directed Yusef bin Yusef to restore those who had lost their way.
The doctrines presented by Yusef, while decried as heresy by the clerics of the Middle East and Europe were well received in the Western continents and Atk'Allah has become a very large minority voice within Islam.
