What do soldiers think when they watch anti-war movies?

Here’s a picture you did not expect. It is from the Battle of Bloody Shiloh. Do you see those dead and wounded? My great-grandfather spoke of seeing the wounded and dying by the tens of thousands, screaming their lives away over days.

As a former infantryman, I ask, how can you NOT be anti-war? War has its time and place, but it should be the last resort, not the first. If you tell me that the glory of war is fleeting, more appreciated by those who never go than those who do, then I am there.

But then there is Hollywood, people who rarely have a clue about this subject, nor respect. The part I really despise is where every returning soldier is a psychotic nutcase waiting to explode. Jobless, strung out, dead inside. Not only is this not true, but this is really disrespectful to our returning soldiers, and hurts them on the job market. This only reinforces the stereotype. Let me tell you a secret: Most of them are much better people because they looked the elephant in the eye and didn’t flinch.
