After the war, the U.S. Army pulled one of the Japanese tanks out of the lake but left the other one on the bottom.

A project is under way to find a “phantom tank” at the bottom of Lake Hamana in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture. The Imperial Japanese Army produced two Type 4 Chi-To medium-heavy tanks on a trial basis near the end of World War II, utilizing what was considered at the time cutting-edge technology.
But the vehicles never saw combat and instead were deep-sixed in the lake sometime between Aug. 23 and 28, 1945, to keep them out of the hands of the U.S. military. After the war, the U.S. Army pulled one of the tanks out of the lake but left the other one on the bottom.  The 30-ton tank was approximately 6.3 meters long and 3 meters high and wide. The Imperial army wanted a class of tank bigger than most of its previous vehicles to compete with those of the United States and European countries, according to Kunihiro Suzuki, 54, president of Fine Molds, a company in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, that produces plastic models of military hardware, including the Chi-To tank.

On September 11th, 2001 a terrible attack on The Twin Towers in New York happened and took thousands of lives. The world was shocked. After the tragic events, clean up crews started to work in the area to prepare it for the foundations of the new “One World Trade Center”, which became the tallest building in the USA when it was finished last year.
In 2010, during this excavation and clean up process, workers found something very interesting: the hull of a large ship. The hull was buried approximately 22 feet (6.7 meters) beneath the ground. Luckily, the excavation was monitored by archeologists and the work was immediately stopped in that part of the work site until they were able to examine it. Now, the origin of the mysterious buried ship is revealed.
Archeologists gathered wood samples from the ship’s hull and determined that it is made in the late 1700s, the same period in which the declaration of independence was signed. The research was conducted at Columbia’s Tree Ring Lab. Scientists used dendro-chronological dating and provenancing, and by comparing the wood ring patterns from the ship hull with wood from historical records, they were able to pinpoint the exact date when the ship was made. The results showed that the ship was constructed in a Philadelphia shipyard around 1773.

New Peruvian temple site reveals women were sacrificed in private ceremonies by Priests

Fairly recently, archaeologists found something quite gruesome in an ancient temple in Pucala, Peru. Archaeologists discovered the first-ever hints about Peruvian sacrificial rituals from clues buried under the remains of the temple. These remains date back to nearly 1,200 years ago.

Κυβερνήσεις και αντιπολιτεύσεις έχουν αποτύχει στην Ελλάδα συνεχόμενα, για σειρά δεκαετιών. Μία νέα πολιτική κίνηση με συμμετοχή μεγάλων προσωπικοτήτων του παγκόσμιου Ελληνισμού (επιστημόνων, επιχειρηματιών, Ελλήνων πολιτικών σε χώρες του εξωτερικού, ανθρώπων των τεχνών) θα ανεβάσει το ηθικό της Ελλάδος, θα επιδιορθώσει τη διεθνή της εικόνα, θα σαρώσει στις εκλογές και θα κάνει τη νέα αρχή με νόμιμο και δημοκρατικό τρόπο. Ταυτόχρονα θα έχει τη στήριξη του διεθνούς παράγοντα και δεν θα έρθει χάος. Από την Ελλάδα μπορεί και πάλι να ξεκινήσει μία νέα ελπιδοφόρα κίνηση στην πολιτική και τον πολιτισμό, αυτή της Αξιοκρατίας και του Πανελληνισμού.

Tiberius became the second ruler of the Roman Empire upon the death of his step-father Augustus in AD 14. Tiberius was one of Rome's greatest generals. But he came to be remembered as a dark, reclusive, and somber ruler who never really desired to be emperor; Roman author Pliny the Elder called him tristissimus hominum, "the gloomiest of men."

1. The French Were Led by Maurice Gamelin

At the start of the Second World War, the French general staff were led by General Maurice Gamelin, an officer widely respected by both allies and opponents. A veteran of the First World War, he was credited with much of the planning that led to victory at Marne in 1914. Since then, he had tried to modernise and mechanise the army.

The Normandy landings (codenamed Operation Neptune) were the landing operations on 6 June 1944 (termed D-Day) of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. The largest seaborne invasion in history, the operation began the invasion of German-occupied western Europe, led to the liberation of France from Nazi control, and contributed to an Allied victory in the war.  Planning for the operation began in 1943. In the months leading up to the invasion, the Allies conducted a substantial military deception, codenamed Operation Bodyguard, to mislead the Germans as to the date and location of the main Allied landings. The weather on D-Day was far from ideal, but postponing would have meant a delay of at least two weeks, as the invasion planners had requirements for the phase of the moon, the tides, and the time of day that meant only a few days in each month were deemed suitable. Hitler placed German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel in command of German forces and of developing fortifications along the Atlantic Wall in anticipation of an Allied invasion. ΕΠΤΑΝΗΣΟΣ ΠΟΛΙΤΕΙΑ: Σαν σήμερα έλαμψε το πρωτο φως της λευτεριάς μετά την άλωση της Πόλης

Με την Συνθήκη του Κάμπο Φόρμιο στις 17 Οκτωβρίου 1797 και την διάλυση της Δημοκρατίας της Βενετίας από τον Ναπολέοντα Βοναπάρτη τα Επτάνησα παραχωρήθηκαν στην Γαλλία, τερματίζοντας έτσι την μακραίωνη κατοχή τους από την Γαληνότατη.Οι ιδέες της Γαλλικής Επανάστασης διαδόθηκαν στα νησιά του Ιονίου, η αριστοκρατική διοίκηση παύθηκε και σχηματίστηκαν κοινοτικά συμβούλια από ανθρώπους όλων των κοινωνικών τάξεων για την διοίκηση των νησιών. Όμως μετά την καταστροφή του Γαλλικού στόλου στο Αμπουκίρ της Αιγύπτου, η Ρωσία και η Τουρκία με την συγκατάθεση της Αγγλίας αποφάσισαν να συστήσουν Ρωσοτουρκική συμμαχία εναντίον των επεκτατικών βλέψεων του Ναπολέοντα στην Ανατολή. Εκμεταλλευόμενες την υποκινούμενη από την Αριστοκρατία δυσαρέσκεια των κατοίκων των Ιονίων Νήσων για τους Γάλλους, ο Ρωσοτουρκικός στόλος ξεκίνησε από τα Κύθηρα, τον Σεπτέμβριο του 1798, την κατάληψη των Επτανήσων, που συμπλήρωσε στις 20 Φεβρουαρίου 1799. Έτσι αφαίρεσαν από την Γαλλία την σημαντικότατη αυτή ναυτική βάση στην ανατολική Μεσόγειο. Μετά από μακρόχρονες προτάσεις, συζητήσεις και αντιρρήσεις των Αυλών Ρωσίας και Τουρκίας υπογράφτηκε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη Συνθήκη στις 21 Μαρτίου 1800, στην οποία αποφασίστηκε η αυτονόμηση της Επτανήσου Πολιτείας, υπό την επικυριαρχία της Υψηλής Πύλης και η ανάθεση της προστασίας των Θρησκευτικών δικαιωμάτων των κατοίκων της, στον Αυτοκράτορα της Ρωσίας. Με τον τρόπο αυτό δημιουργήθηκε το πρώτο ημιαυτόνομο Ελληνικό κρατίδιο τριακόσια πενήντα περίπου χρόνια, μετά την κατάλυση της Βυζαντινής Αυτοκρατορίας, η Επτάνησος Πολιτεία.

Σε όλες τις εποχές η Γαλλίδα θάμπωνε τον υπόλοιπο κόσμο. Ακόμη και σήμερα συνεχίζει να την θαυμάζει και να την τιμά. Υπάρχουν ωστόσο κάποιες γαλλίδες που σημάδεψαν την ιστορία με το στιλ και την προσωπικότητά τους.
Μαντάμ ντε Ποπαντούρ

Την ανακάλυψε ο ίδιος ο Λουδοβίκος XV σε χορό στο παλάτι, το 1745. Ονομαζόταν Jeanne Antoinette Poisson και εκείνο το βράδυ είχε μεταμφιεστεί σε όμορφη χωριατοπούλα. Εγινε επίσημη ερωμένη του βασιλιά, ο οποίος της πρόσφερε τον τίτλο της Μαρκησίας ντε Πομπαντούρ. Είναι αναρίθμητα τα ποιήματα, οι πίνακες και τα θεατρικά που έγιναν προς τιμήν της. Η ομορφιά και οι τουαλέτες της έμειναν στην ιστορία της Γαλλίας ως κάτι εξαιρετικά σπάνιο. Εμεινε πιστή στο πλευρό του βασιλιά ως το άδοξο τέλος του, παρότι η σχέση τους είχε τελειώσει. Διανοούμενη, εξειδικευμένη στην τέχνη και στα όμορφα πράγματα άφησε πίσω της πολλά έργα τέχνης και κτίρια.

The B-17 Flying Fortress was famous for being able to take a lot of damage and still make it back to base. We have collected a number of incredible images of damaged B-17 Flying Fortresses that made it home.
During WWII 12,732 B-17’s were produced between 1935 and May 1945. Of these 4,735 were lost in combat, a staggering 37%.

As it turns out, history has had its fair share of brilliant (and sometimes bizarre) weapon conceptions that were arguably ‘advanced’ in every sense of the word. So, without further ado, let us take a gander at fourteen such advanced weapon systems from history that were surely far ahead of their time.

Project Seuthopolis – Ancient Thracian city could be turned into a cultural tourism attraction

Seuthopolis was an ancient hellenistic-type city founded by the Thracian king Seuthes III and the capital of the Odrysian kingdom. The city was founded sometime from 325 BC to 315 BC. It was a city, built on the site of an earlier settlement, and its ruins are now located at the bottom of the Koprinka Reservoir near Kazanlak, Stara Zagora Province, in central Bulgaria. Its ruins suggest that the place had been an important political and economic center, as well as containing evidence of the Thracian culture and traditions.

Seuthopolis was not a true polis, but rather the seat of Seuthes and his court. His palace had a dual role, functioning also as a sanctuary of the Cabeiri, the gods of Samothrace. Most of the space within the city was occupied not by homes but by official structures, the majority of the people was living outside the city. It had Thracian and Greek populace and in 281 BC it was sacked by Celts.

This man alone had the courage, without being ordered by Bouzes or anyone else, to go out of his own accord to meet the man in single combat. And he caught the barbarian while still considering how he should deliver his attack, and hit him with his spear on the right breast. And the Persian did not bear the blow delivered by a man of such exceptional strength, and fell from his horse to the earth. Then Andreas with a small knife slew him like a sacrificial animal as he lay on his back, and a mighty shout was raised both from the city wall and from the Roman army.”
