80+ Year Old Kurdish Veterans Take Up Arms Against ISIS
Since Kurdistan was divided by the Imperial powers after World War I, the countries occupying Kurdistan (Turkey, Iran, Syria and Iraq) have tried everything to destroy the Kurdish will for democracy, human rights, and self-determination. Countless of massacres and genocides have been committed against the Kurdish nation by the occupying regimes. Over 182,000 Kurdish civilians were buried alive by Saddam's regime, while more than 200,000 Kurds were murdered by the Turks during the Zilan and Dersim massacres.
But none of these governments succeeded in suppressing the Kurdish freedom fighters. The Kurds have been continuously fighting against these powerful governments and armies, some of which ranked and rank among the top 10 of the world. But these wars and conflicts have united the Kurdish nation more than any other nation on earth.
While the Kurdish YPG forces have wiped out the Jihadists in West (Syrian) Kurdistan, and successfully expelled the occupying SAA army, Kurds in South (Iraqi) Kurdistan have managed to create a safe heaven, a true democracy, and the fastest growing economy in the Middle-East. And the Kurds are prepared to do anything to protect their success and growth against the barbarity and violence of the Arabs.
While 80+ year old veterans of World War II remember D-Day and have lead a long, healthy, and peaceful life since the end of World War II, these old Kurdish veterans are still prepared to fight anything and anyone to protect their people and country against foreign threat.
Of course, none of these men will be sent to the frontline, as the modern Kurdish armed forces are more than capable to annihilate 100 ISIS armies.
Older (70+ year old) Kurdish veterans in West (Syrian) Kurdistan have actually fought against ISIS and the FSA. The veterans pictured below are from South (Iraqi) Kurdistan. The battles they have fought:
- 1943 Kurdish Revolt In Iraq
- First Kurdish-Iraqi War (1961-1970)
- Second Kurdish-Iraqi War (1970-1974)
- (Insurgency of 1974-1983)*
- Kurdish Rebellion of 1983-1988
- Uprising and Liberation of 1991
