Migration is a term always used to describe a phenomenon of mass population movements legally or illegally via some countries borders. However in recent years and waves of people coming (mostly) in the West, is usually driven to mistaken assumptions and misunderstandings. Migration is not the issue. Illegal immigration is.
Illegal immigration is not about refugees who under international laws are in right oftemporary protection and residence, while war or their political prosecution, is still on going. Illegal immigration is about those people who leave their countries which are not in state of war , or under a regime/dictatorship and decide to cross borders in an illegal way in hoping to meet a better fate.
By doing that, they are maybe entitled to humanitarian aid but they are not (under no condition) entitled to get a permission of permanent residence nor they are in right of any civil right of the country they "invaded". Please do remember that a smuggled crowd of 40-50 people into any country, are not easy to be put under legal and medical control , so they are considered a threat to nation, unless this should be accomplished.
There are many researches on how they evade check and control, how they cross borders on foot via borders under guidance of smugglers, how even terrorists and criminals use this to their own benefit.
Control and limitation on borders is achievable when flow does exceed some hundreds, even few thousands per year... but when you get thousands per month , the only way to deal with this, is with radical solutions taken by the country in such a tough spot.
Today Greece for example counts almost 1.500.000 people of foreign origin (legal and illegal immigrants) while population numbers are around 10.000.000! This demonstrates on how society and social services are strained and how this is leading to extreme forms of political ideology (Golden Dawn used that) especially when countries like Italy , Spain, Greece suffer major impact of illegal immigration wave coming to their soil.
There are a lot of reports and analysis going on , on how to deal with this, since FRONTEX and EU are not willing to spend vast amounts of money to guard other nations borders forever but also, how these countries wont be able to hold back and filter these immigration waves just on their own.
In that sense there are strong doubts on, how mild measures, or how Dublin II regulationmight be able to hold back these waves, of illegal immigrants back and at the same time try to not feed negativity/racism/discrimination sentiments within societies against those different groups of people (nationality, culture). An additional issue to this is that most of immigrants, in fact refuse to be absorbed by local communities and try to form their own ghetto and some times even try to enforce their own laws. If someone takes a walk around certain urban areas at Europe he/she will be able to verify this.
