Morning Mix: Newt Promises Moon Colonies

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich went all yesterday in In the race to win the Florida Republican primary, promising Floridians that as President he would deliver a permanent lunar colony within 8 years. Naturally, big government hating, NASA-loving Floridians went bonkers for it.
When Gingrich wasn’t swinging for the fences with a militarized space colony within a decade, he was putting the rest of America on notice that if debate audiences didn’t plan to applaud him then Gingrich would stop debating. How very czarist of him.
Finally! Mitt Romney has reason to believe! Recent polls have him up by about 5% and with the conservative establishment positively freaking out over the possibility that Gingrich wins the nomination, Romney needs to hunker down. Ultimately this will be won when conservatives decide which they like the least: the grifter Gingrich or Romney.
Meanwhile former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum would like to remind you he’s still in the race.
In other news, the overall reaction to the State of the Union was positive, but that doesn’t mean Republicans will start showing President Obama respect anytime soon. Just take a look at the reception the President received by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer. The lack of professionalism would be astonishing except this is Gov. Brewer we’re talking about.
But don’t judge the entire state of Arizona by Brewer’s actions. After all, Arizonans did elect Rep. Gabby Giffords (D). Giffords officially left Congress yesterday in what was a beautiful, moving tribute to a woman who has become synonymous with class and grace. It’s rare that a political wrap can end on with such a picture, so how about we leave it at that.
