Origins of the Byzantine Empire Edit

When the Roman Empire reached its extent on Dacia and Parthia, the same time during the day Trajan died, Hadrian became emperor. When he wanted to build a city to rival Rome and make it the capital, he built a city on the site of Byzantium , and built Parlious Caravel, on the edge of the Strait of Bosporus. Hadrian expanded the city many times to be larger than Rome as well as other emperors. Hadrian then added Russia, Scandinavia, (the surviving Vikings fled to Iceland and Greenland) Central Asia, Mongolia, Iran, Western Southern Asia, and Manchuria to the empire. Theodosius started to make Parlious Caravel capital when he became emperor, and made it like Constantinople. However, Russia claimed independence from Rome after its fall. It became part of the Eastern Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, which preserved ancient civilizations, Atlantean, and Chinese culture. The first Byzantine emperor, Anastasius I, made the Byzantines a world power.

The western world is nearly destroyed by the onset of the Bubonic Plague. When the dust settles, the Muslims are poised to invade Europe, and do so. By the time of the Renaissance OTL, Europe is deeply Muslim, and the Pope has ceased having any power.
By the time of Columbus, the Muslims have launched a crusade against the Orthodox of the East, driving the Christians from the Caliphate of Thenas (Greece) who settled in Malorussia and the Orthodox Empire (Russia).

[edit] Story

In an alternate timeline of 2009, following George W. Bush's eight year term in office, David Jefferson Adams is elected the 44th President of the United States following a disputed election and a tie vote in the Electoral College (and subsequent tie-breaker by the United States House of Representatives), becoming the most unpopular president in U.S. history. A combination of foreign terrorist attacks and poor economic conditions contributes to civil unrest. As a result, rioting springs up all throughout the United States, resulting in domestic terrorism. In response, President Adams uses the Homeland Security Act and declares martial law (in reality, there is no such provision in the Homeland Security Act) on many areas of the country, but it is particularly concentrated in the Midwest.
During the election of 2012, the Supreme Court of the United States disqualifies all the presidential candidates from holding office, effectively handing Adams his reelection. The public reacts violently when incumbent Adams accepts a second term.
During the Inauguration Day in Washington, D.C. on January 20, 2013, a low-yield tactical nuclear weapon is detonated in an apparent groundburst, presumably having been concealed there in advance. The yield is sufficient to destroy most of the city, killing Adams, his cabinet, and most of the U.S. Congress, effectively wiping out the presidential line of succession.
The European Union parliament meets in an emergency session, and votes to send peacekeepers to the greater DC area to secure international interests and protection of European citizens in the United States. As secessionist sentiment rises in America, the governor of California declares home rule, and secedes from the Union on April 15, 2013. Texas follows a few days later, taking neighboring states with them and re-forming the Republic of Texas. Other factions form in the following months, and by 2014, all hopes for a peaceful resolution are gone and the Second American Civil War begins.

The Second Hungary-Slovakia War, also knowns as the Second Magyar-Slovak War was an armed conflict between the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Hungary which lasted from the 28th June 2010 to 26th August 2010 and resulted in a EU brokered ceacefire in which some parts of southern Slovakia were ceaded to Hungary. As well as being the first ever war between members of both NATO and the European Union, it is also one of the only wars to be fought between two democratic nations and resulted in both nations being temporarily suspended from NATO.

BACKGROUNDEdit

The background to the war can be fround in the 2010 Parliamentary elections in which the conservative party Fidesz under Viktor Orbán won the election with 52.73% of the votes and 263 of the seats (out of a total number of 386). A new citizenship law gained a majority in the National Assembly on 14th May which put huge strain on the two countries relations as the law allows ethnic Hungarians living in other countries(e.g. Slovakia) to apply for duel citizenship. In a tit for tat exhange, Slovakia retaliated later the same day with its own legislation threatening that anyone who applies for citizenship of another country will lose their Slovak citizenship. This was to come into effect sometime in July. Naturally, this only served to worsen the relations and increase tensions.

Point of DepartureEdit

Roman Empire: 116 AD original point of departure where Emperor Trajan decides to fortify the newly claimed province of Mesopatamia, making it much more easily defendable, and as a result his successor Hadrian decides not to get rid of the province. In 163 AD in Athens, a young boy named Maximus is born with to loving parents and later a younger sister who is born in 165 AD, but unfortunetley his mother dies in birth, and his father dies of plague in 167 AD. He develops a great character of extreme intelligence, love of knowledge, intelect, wisdom, and philosophy, but he is also a very good judge of people, and extremely street smart when looking out for himself and his baby sister. He crosses heads with Emperor Marcus Aurelius who decides to adopt him, and is proclaimed Emperor in 180 AD being the sixth good emperor out of the 15 Good Emperors.

Divided Continent is a alternate history beginning with the Union defeat at Gettysburg in 1863, during the American Civil War.

BackgroundEdit

Pope's continual loses at hands of the Confederacy on all major fronts in late 1862-1863 had diminished the Union's morale severely. In March of 1863, Congress met with President Abraham Lincoln and his Cabinet to discuss a ceasefire. Lincoln disagreed entirely with Congress, ending the meeting abrputly and returning to The White House. In late June of 1863, seeking a quick conclusion of the war, General Robert E. Lee ordered The Army of North Virgina to advance through West Virginia and into Pennsylvania, to capture Harrisburg and Pittsburgh and hope Union leaders would approach Lee or Confederate President Jefferson Davis in Richmond for a ceasefire. In a diversion attempt, six infantry regiments (most notabily The 15th Alabama Infantry Regiment) and three cavalry regiments under combined command of Nathan Bedford Forrest invaded Maryland from Cold Harbor, Virgina. Army of the Potomac General George Meade sent ten infantry regiments (Notably the 20th Maine and the 54th Massachusettes) under provisional command of infantry commander Col. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain to intercept Forrest at Baltimore. The absence of several veteran units from Union forces at Gettysburg have been cited as a major contribution to the Union's loss.
